Category: Accessible Games
So I should have hopped on this bandwagon long ago, but truth be told I'm not a fan of video games for a few personal reasons. Still, I think one thing I wish I had done with my now ex was try to play some RPG's with him, because apparently he was really into them, beyond what he told me. It's just that from my understanding, they move so fast. I'm also not big into fantasy worlds, so I think maybe that's why video games don't hold much appeal for me as an adult. But anyway, what are some accessible RPG's you've played? What are the premises behind them? Have you ever heard of Iron Realm, I think it's called? That's the one he plays, I think. There, can of worms officially opened.
Mel
Entombed, and Alter Aeon. That's the only RPG'S I play..
Entombed you have to buy, it's $40, but well worth it. There's like 25 levels, and you'll spend hours trying to beat it. I know I did.
Alter Aeon is free, and there's an awesome soundpack that goes with it. If you want help with either of these, ya know, setting them up or whatever, let me know.
Oh yes, I love Entombed. I haven't played it in a while, but it sure was fun.
I know of ironrealms, although they are a huge thing of little tiny fantasies here and there. I don't like to play them personally, I have tried five of there games, lusternia, atolia, some others. I didn't like them. Miriani I like it because it is based upon future, its like a space mud which is fun. I like alter aeon if I'm on a killing spree. I play others as well.
I am playing Brave of Cloudia, which is a futuristic game. I too play Alter Aeon, Miriani, Hellmoo, and Valhalla. You need to get a mud client if you want to play them. I suggest Mush-Z, as it is free and cooler than VIP Mud, which is a piece of shit, because the screenreader echos everything you type when you press enter.
I'm an Entombed supporter myself. Some of the sound effects were admittedly a little cheesy. When an enemy or party member dies, for instance, it sounds like one of those little rubber dumbell weights hitting a tile floor. Fortunately the music more than makes up for that, especially once you get down to te final floor of the dungeon. It's worth the forty bucks.
I never finished the last floor, I kept getting killed by spiders with poison and such.
What you have to pay for it now? when I got it it was free, I just downloaded it from the web site, but never made it to the last floor, lol.
I don't know how much it is now, or if it even exists. I have been playing Bokurano Daiboukenn too much to care.
if you're talking audio games, sad to say there aren't many true RPG games, entombed is the only one that comes to mind that is in english
if you don't mind japanese, then bokurano daibouken, shadow rine or brave of cloudia are all fun games to play
bass, how far are you in to BOC? just beat stage 4 myself
if you're looking for mainstream games, final fantasy is a good place to start, some of the best games of the last 10 years
I am on stage twenty-five, final battle. There are some hard stages in the game, such as eight four, when you must face a death robot. It took me nine hours to kill it. If you like, I have my Skype in my profile, you can add me and I will help you.
lol no not bokurano daibouken, brave of cloudia was what I was asking about
Entombed is free for the first 8 floors, but you can upgrade it for $40 and get all 25 floors, plus some other jobs, races, and other stuff that I didn't buy.
Ah yes, the correct term for them is "muds." Suddenly I am hearing people talk about them. You know, that whole thing where you hear a new song or word and it pops up everywhere. I am so intimidated by these games. It seems like, from what I've researched, there is sooooo much to them. Apparently said ex has posted to the boards on one of these sites about screenreader accessibility when someone asked, and he recommended use of a Braille display to better keep up, since they move fast. I thought that was creative of him. Also the one he played within Iron Realms was Achaea. Sound familiar to anyone? Also, thanks for all of your input!
I am in the caves in Brave of Cloudia, I am stuck in an area where the enemies keep coming back and I can't figure it out
you have to kill everything, its just enemies keep spawning
you'll come across this more and more later
the key to these stages is to seperate your party in to groups, and kill everything as fast as you can
I'll Skype with you and find a strategy. Though I am trying to play Alter Aeon a bit more now, as I am now getting an awesome character there.
there is kleft of dementions, if you're into crossovers.
What is this kleft of dimensions game? is it a mud
Hi mel mel, I play a few muds actually. Achaea is not my thing, I tried it, but came to realize all ironrealms games are of the same worlds; crafst, skills, same way to level up as well. I suggest maybe alter aeon, not my favorite but that one is good with mush client. I also play miriani, its gotten dull, only because I have so much points. But even hell is great, but doesn't seem your type of game. If you go to
mudconnector.com. There you can search up muds. Hope this helps mel mel
oh oops. I just realized I repeated a post from long time ago. However hope the website works.
I've only recently gotten into Alter Aeon.
Just a note on Entombed, since it's been mentioned a few times:
Honestly, forty bucks is a novelty. This is to say, the game has a ton of stats involved, some classes are just plain better than others, and the game is quite repetitive. I bought a copy and I don't precisely regret it, but if you actually expect to get a typical forty dollars' worth of content, even for an audio game, you might be disappointed.
To this day, I still don't know what half the stats actually do, and I still tend to stick to the same small niche group of classes: monk, assassin, fighter, barbarian, sometimes brawler, necromancer and druid. Paladins are useless, healers are underwhelming, thieves are just bad, wanderers are funny but sort of broken, adventurers are (again) just kinda bad, mages are good for about four levels and then are overmatched by necromancers, and tricky classes are useless against bosses. Also, the Ratkin race, which is unlockable in the bazaar, is bugged and hasn't been fixed. The game has a lot of potential and enough replay to fiddle with, so I'm not saying don't buy it. Just...don't be too surprised if the result isn't exactly a picture-perfect high-polished finish.
I agree sheperd, especially with the wanders. I cant see the point in them, I've been trying to unlock the druids. But I didn't buy my copy, so hee. Someone got it for me.
Oh and as for alter aeon, its fine, only I've grown bored of it.
Alter Aeon is one of those games I really love, but which you have to stick with. To this day I have only ever gotten one character to level 30, and by the time you hit 25-26 or so, you're so sick of the third quote-unquote newbie island, called Archais, that you don't want to grind anymore. They keep adding new quests, which rocks, but as for new grinding, I don't know. There seems to be this huge hurdle between players on the islands and players on the mainland. I just want to get to a point where I have a character at a high level who can handle the mainland, and maybe even the north continent, alone, but I can't get over the hump.
Thanks for the information, Shepherdwolf. We keep expanding Archais, but it seems like there's never enough areas for people there. The gap you mention, between players on the mainland and players on the islands, might also be bigger than I expected. I'll take some time and look it over.
It could also be that I just don't stick with it enough. I know Archais is crowded as it is. It would almost be worth it to make some of the Kordon stuff a bit harder, and bump everything up. I mean, almost no one bothers with half of Sloe, the first island, because of the way the quest progression is set up. You can grind in the graveyard and in the kobold camp very easily, and it doesn't feel like grinding. By the time you do those quests and find the blue marshes, or that little nearby forest full of whatever those tiny creatures are called - pillywiggins or something - there's really no point. If some of those areas were made tougher, and some of the Kordon stuff was made a little harder, it would raise the level at which Archais stuff would start. You could then raise the difficulty of Archais stuff and there'd be a narrower bridge.
However, that's a crapton of work, I know it well, and I'm only one person. Lots of people have soldiered through where I have not, so I'd be egotistical to think this is a problem purely because I find it so. Majority rules and all that. It's just something to note for any other AA players; if you get a clan, or group a lot, or are okay grinding the same four or fie areas repetitively, you're probably okay. Otherwise, you might peter out, like I so often do.
Anyone here play King of Dragon Pass? I haven't bought it but am considering it. I don't sit with games for hours anymore now that I am back in the city and mobile again, but still. If I was gonna get one that would probably be it.
Personally I've heard good things about this game, but the sort of strategy it entails isn't up my alley. I want dynamic adventure, not just push-a-button scripted random events.
Oh, I got a good one. Anyone heard of Legend of the Green Dragon? There's a whole network out there, but most of them I hate because the players are nasty. One I love (I'm biased, what can I say?) is Dragons of Myth. People actually have imagination on there.
